John Huffman, veteran Archbold kart racer, is leading the points in a new racing series at the Fremont kart racing facility.
The Dual Crown series requires drivers to compete on dirt and pavement oval tracks. There are three races on each surface.
There are two classes of karts; one for flat-head engines, in which karts must weigh a minimum of 360 pounds, and a second combined class of karts with flat-head engines that must weigh 380 pounds or overhead valve engine karts that must weigh 425 pounds.
In the first race, which was run on pavement Sunday, May 7, Huffman was second in two heat races, the fourth in the feature. He reported having carburetor trouble.
The second race, run on the dirt track, was Saturday,
June 17. Huffman was fifth in the feature.
He was back on pavement for Saturday, June 24, where he swept both heat races and the feature.
With three races to go, he leads the dual-crown championship points.
