John Huffman, veteran Archbold kart racer, notched his first feature win of the 2019 kart racing season at the track in Fremont.
Each year, he said, the track holds a Record Day.
Fastest laps run that day are considered the track record for the year.
This year, Record Day was Sunday, July 28. Huffman was the defending 2018 record holder at 10.29 seconds in the pro oval class.
But, he said, the weather was slightly cooler in 2018.
A racer gets three laps to qualify for that day’s racing, and to set the record. Two other pro oval racers set times of 10.45 and 10.41.
Huffman said he went out and turned a lap of 10.34, slightly slower than his 2018 run.
In racing, he won the first heat, second in the second heat, and then crossing the line first in the feature.
The event was part of a doubleheader.
On Saturday, July 25, Huffman won a heat race, was fifth in the second, and finished the feature as third.
Vance Nofziger, Pandora- Gilboa, formerly of Archbold, was fourth in two heats and the feature Saturday night.
