Howard R. Wanemacher, 76, of Wauseon, died on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, in his home.
A lifelong resident of Fulton County, he was born in Wauseon on May 16, 1934, the youngest son of Ralph S. Wanemacher and Bessie Williams Wanemacher.
On Feb. 21, 1954, Howard married Beverly Bernath, of Wauseon.
An astute businessman, Mr. Wanemacher successfully farmed throughout his adult life. He was an active member of St. James Lutheran Church, Burlington, and served as elder, congregational president and as a member of numerous committees.
He was a former member of the Board of Directors for Fairlawn Haven, Gerald Grain, and Fulton County Farm Bureau. He was also a member of Ohio Pork Producers and Fulton County T-Bone Club.
In his retirement, Howard especially enjoyed breakfasts with his friends at the “round table.”
Howard is survived by Beverly, his wife of 56 years, and five children: Pamela (Thomas) Danklefsen of Grove City; Mark (Pam), Gregg (Pam), Joel (Beth), and Lynn (Wayne) Lehman, all from the Archbold/ Wauseon area. He leaves 16 grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren, four greatgrandchildren; and three stepgreat grandchildren to mourn Grandpa’s death.
He also leaves behind two brothers, Robert of Bourbon, Ind., and Rollin of Napoleon; and a sister, Corrine (Marlin) Burkholder of Wauseon; many nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lowell Leitner; and two sisters, Marie Krueger and Fern Kleck.
A worship celebration was conducted at 11 am on Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, at St. James Lutheran Church, Burlington. Interment followed at the church’s cemetery.
Short Funeral Home in Archbold was entrusted with the arrangements.
Memorials in Howard’s honor may be given to St. James Lutheran Church or to Hospice of Williams and Fulton Counties.
