Howard A. Meck, 93, of Archbold, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2013, in his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born July 21, 1919, to Clarence and Mable (Resh) Meck of Freeport, Ill.
He married Helen Roth on Aug. 20, 1950, who survives.
Howard and Helen were blessed with six children, Dorthy Sue, who preceded him in death, Don (Jane) Meck, Mary Lou (Glen) Heck, Marvin (Darlene) Rohrer-Meck, Mabel (John) McFarland and Linda (Kevin) Yoder; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Also surviving Howard are three sisters, Martha Sieber of Champaigne, Ill., Arlene Schaefer of Phoenix, Ariz., and Ethel Schmucker of Archbold.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Dr. Mervin Meck, Marion, Va.
He was a faithful member of Central Mennonite Church of Archbold.
Howard served in Civilian Public Service from 1942- 1946. He served on a variety of committees at Central and participated in many local mission opportunities.
Throughout his adult years, Howard was self-employed as a bulldozer operator.
He enjoyed family activities including reunions, lake time, and games around the table and enjoying God’s creation.
A Celebration of Life Service was held on June 29, 2013 at Central Mennonite Church.
The family suggests memorials be given to Mennonite Central Committee, Mennonite Disaster Service or Gideons International.
Short Funeral Home in Archbold was entrusted with the arrangements.
