Hornish Finishes 39th At New Hampshire

Sam Hornish, Jr., AHS ’98 and Indianapolis 500 winner, finished 39th in his racing debut in a rain-shortened event at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Sunday, June 29.

After starting in the 20th position, Hornish battled a loosehandling racecar for much of the race, but maintained a top- 35 position in the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Car Series owners point standings.

Hornish spun in turn four on lap 281, making contact with the No. 07 car and bringing out the seventh caution of the race. During that caution period, heavy rains hit the one-mile track and racing action was not resumed.

Hornish is 34th in the 2008 owner point standings, 35 points from the 33rd spot.

“It was a tough day out there today,” said Hornish. “It’s difficult when you’re racing leadlap cars and lap-down cars at the same time. Hopefully we will get things turned around in our direction soon.” ”

Hornish heads to Daytona International Speedway, Saturday, July 5, 6:30 p.m.
