Heritage Inn Expansion Gets Tax Abatement

Archbold Village Council approved a $1,129,280 10-year property tax abatement for the expansion of the Sauder Heritage Inn.

Melanie Nagel, Archbold assistant village administrator, said the taxes on the $7,397,328 property improvement were abated for 10 years.

In response to a question from Ed Leininger, council president, Nagel said it was difficult to assign an exact figure on the number of jobs created because many are seasonal or part-time. She said between 20 and 30 employees were added.

Dennis Howell, Archbold village administrator, said the number of jobs added more than equals the five full-time equivalent jobs required by some tax abate programs.

Nagel said for each year of the agreement, Heritage Inn officials agreed to make donations totaling $25,386 to the Archbold Area School District, the Four County Career Center, German Township, and Fulton County. The payments represent all or part of the taxes the Heritage Inn would have paid to the entities.

“The Village of Archbold opts not to accept a donation,” she said.
