Henry County Board Preps For Election

Grace Speiser, Henry County Board of Elections director, said Tuesday, Oct. 14, the number of registered voters in Henry County stands at 20,145.

The number of registered voters hasn’t exceeded 20,000 in close to a decade, she said.

There were 19,751 registered for the March primary election.

Americans will pick their next president during the Tuesday, Nov. 4, general election, but that’s not the only thing that’s generating interest. Speiser said there are several local issues, including nine tax levy requests, two of them from school districts.

Speiser said she’s predicting voter turnout of between 85% and 90% on Nov. 4.

The Henry County board has sent out more absentee ballots than ever; as of Tuesday, 1,775 absentee ballots had been requested.

“For the governor race, we only hit 1,481. That (the 1,775 figure) is extremely high,” she said.

Her office is coping with the rush.

“I have a few extra people come in and help, but we have no time to spare, and we’re working extra,” she said.

Voters who live in Ridgeville Township cast ballots at the Ridgeville Township fire station. Voters in Freedom Township mark ballots at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Co. Rd. U and 16.
