Aug. 12, 1914-Aug. 10, 2013
Two days prior to her 99th birthday, Helen Ide passed away at her residence in Los Gatos, Calif.
Helen was born in Sheboygan, Wis., and raised in Dubuque, Iowa.
She attended Milwaukee Downer College and graduated from Clarke College with a degree in teaching. Her field was home economics.
She met Henry B. Ide in Dubuque. He became a Lutheran minister. They were married in 1936 and moved to Ohio.
After a short time in Port Clinton, Henry was transferred to St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ridgeville Corners, where they remained until he retired in 1973.
Helen taught home economics at Ridgeville and Archbold high schools and retired in 1973, also.
They then began traveling around the country in a Winnebago and came upon the town of Brookings, Ore., where they bought a small house.
In Sept 1977, they went to Europe for the year, visiting acquaintances and making numerous new friends. Henry passed away in 1981 and after a short while, Helen moved to California to be closer to her children.
She spent her remaining years living at the Los Gatos Meadows, where she served on the food and meals committee. Her son, Roger, passed away in 1998.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia and husband, Donald; her granddaughter, Lorraine and husband, Paul; her grandson, Douglas and wife, Deborah; and three great-grandchildren, Indigo Jane, Sammy, and Timmy.
She shared her skill and passion for cooking (and enjoying good food) with many, including those in her immediate family and their children. We will miss her deeply, as will her many friends and relatives.
Memorial services will be held in Los Gatos and in Ridgeville Corners at a time to be announced.
