Brent Nafziger, chief executive officer of the Fairlawn Haven Retirement Community, has resigned his position due to health issues.

Doug Nafziger, president of the FairlawnBoard of Trustees, said in mid- May, Brent Nafziger was at his home in Blooming Glen, Pa., when he developed health problems.

Brent Nafziger’s resignation was submitted in mid- June, Doug Nafziger said.

A statement issued to Fairlawn residents said, “Due to medical recommendations, Brent and his family made the decision to submit his resignation. Brent is appreciative of the support shown during his tenure.”

Selected

The Fairlawn Board of Trustees selected Nafziger for the position in July 2014, but did not announce his identity until Nov. 3, 2014.

His first official day on the job was Monday, Jan. 5.

He replaced Steve Ringenberg, Fairlawn CEO for 29 years. Ringenberg retired June 1, 2014.

The statement issued to residents said, “The Board of Trustees is working quickly and with discernment on the search for Fairlawn’s future CEO. The board is thankful for everyone’s support at this time.

Doug Nafziger said Fairlawn will follow the same procedure used to select Brent Nafziger. Fairlawn officials will work with Mennonite Health Services, a consulting firm based in Goshen, Ind., to find potential candidates.

Interim

Nanette Buehrer, director of development and community services, and Nona Liechty, director of human resources, have been affirmed by the Fairlawn Board as co-managers of Fairlawn, the statement said.

“They will provide direction with the Fairlawn leadership team to ensure continuity of care and services.

“Nanette is licensed as the nursing home administrator of record for the Care Center,” the statement reads.

There is no definite timeline for the selection of a new CEO, said Doug Nafziger.

“It all depends upon the candidates,” he said.
