Harold W. Siegel, age 79, West Unity, passed away peacefully in his home on July 19, 2010, following a brief illness.
Harold was born on June 26, 1931, in Alvordton, to Leonard and Susie (Kaiser) Siegel. He married Margaret H. Henderson on June 20, 1953, in Alvordton, and she survives.
Harold graduated from Alvordton High School in 1950. He served his country for five years in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
After the service, Harold and Margaret lived in West Unity, raising their family on a dairy farm south of town. A fire produced another career change for Harold and he began driving trucks for Dayton Walther Corp. of Fayette.
Harold retired from driving and started Siegel Excavating, a business he ran proudly and continued to work for even after his retirement.
Harold was a member of the American Legion Post #669 and was a part of the graveside military honor guard, the Montpelier Moose, the Unity Antique Tractor Club and attended Solid Rock Community Church.
Harold is survived by his wife; three sons, David (Amy) Siegel of Chandler, Ariz., Dennis (Cindi) Siegel of Alvordton, and Doug (Janice) Siegel of West Unity; one daughter, Tina (Kevin) Beatty of West Unity; eight grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 20 greatgrandchildren; one brother, Lloyd Siegel of West Unity; and two sisters, Gladys Bailey of Fayette, and Doris Snow of Bryan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Betty Fenton, and Carol Siegel.
Calling hours will be on Friday, July 23, 2010 from 2-8 p.m. at the Orr Funeral Home in West Unity.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at the Solid Rock Community Church in West Unity, with Pastor Jim Pollock to officiate. Burial will be at the Floral Grove Cemetery in West Unity, with Graveside Military Rites conducted by American Legion Post #669.
