The informal furniture donation program in Archbold received a rather unusual “donation,” Sunday, Jan. 28.
Michael Cowgill, rural Archbold, was going through a couch that had been donated.
Jerry Rohrs, rural Archbold, who operates the program, said Cowgill was looking for coins or other things.
What he came up with was a handgun; specifically a revolver, chambered for .38 Special cartridges.
The gun was unloaded.
It was turned over to Archbold police, along with information about where volunteers picked up the couch.
“The police checked out the gun and there were no problems with it, so they’re going to return it to the owner,” Rohrs said.
“This was the first time in 20 years we found such a thing.”
