Gregory Alan Bontrager

Gregory Alan Bontrager, age 43 years, of Wauseon, passed away suddently Tuesday evening, Feb. 17, 2009, after suffering an apparent heart attack.

He was born Oct. 1, 1965, in Kokomo, Ind., the son of Emery and Emma Maxine (Mast) Bontrager. He married Nancy Sauder on Feb. 11, 1989.

He was a 1984 graduate of Northwestern High School, and received his associate degree from Hesston (Kan.) College in 1987.

A resident of the Wauseon area since 1990, he worked at Sauder Manufacturing, Style Solutions, and Lanich, Inc. Most recently he worked at Sauder Village as Human Resource Director.

Greg lived an active life participating in many community and church activities. He enjoyed being involved in sporting events, whether participating or watching his children or others. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and co-worker. His laughter and sense of humor were a gift to all who knew him, as was his kind and gentle spirit.

He was a member of the West Clinton Mennonite Church near Pettisville.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy, and five children, Lauren, Ashlyn, Jordan, Aaron, and Carly all at home; his father, Emery Bontrager of Kokomo, Ind.; sisters, Theresa (Wayne) Overman and Peggy (Clint) Coon; his father-inlaw and mother-in-law, Myrl and Freida Sauder of Archbold; brothers in-law and sisters-in-law, Dan and Ezzie Sauder and Trevor and Julie Crossgrove; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Emma Maxine Bontrager, and brothers, Rodney and Darrell Bontrager.

Services were held on Monday at 4 p.m. at Pettisville Missionary Church with Pastor Tim Lehman officiating. Private interment at the Pettisville Cemetery preceded the memorial service.

Short Funeral Home in Archbold was entrusted with the arrangements.

The family suggests memorials be given to Sauder Village, West Clinton Youth Group or Colegio Shaddai School in Chiquimulilla, Guatemala (given through West Clinton Mennonite Church).
