Bible Quiz brings families together, as was the case at the meet at Tedrow Mennonite Church, Sunday, Feb. 4.
Two teams with three siblings each, “Dust You Shall Eat,” Tedrow, and “Quick,” Central, quizzed each other and still had the highest averages of the day. Both teams have three siblings and one more.
For Tedrow, Jacob Myers, a Pettisville senior and seven-year quizzer, traveled back from a weekend Virginia college visit to join brothers Levi and Samuel and teammate Austin Aeschliman.
For “Quick,” Hope Nofziger, a nine-year quizzer and Bethel College sophomore, joined her twin siblings, Kate and William, and cousin Leah Beltran.
In their match Sunday, “Quick” took an early 105- 20 lead with three quiz-outs. Tedrow came back strong and finished with 100 points.
Tedrow went on to score 155 and 170 in its next two matches and won the day with a 142-point average.
Other scores for “Quick” included 170, 145 and 105 to average 131 for the day.
Northwest Ohio Bible Quiz has nine years of eligibility, ages 12-20, allowing many siblings to make fun Bible Quiz memories together.
Along with the Myers and Nofziger siblings, quizzers also include: Eastland Baptist seven-year quizzer Isaiah Sheldon and his sisters, Lydia and Grace; two sets of brothers for Pettisville Missionary, Isaac and Joshua Norr and Weston and Samuel Ruffer; three sets of siblings for North Clinton, brother and sister Cara Aeschliman, an eight-year quizzer, and Chris Foor, a five-year quizzer; sisters Anna and Violet Thomas; and brother and sister, Ian and Grace Armstrong.
Four teams were recognized for team spirit day, including “Four Rivers,” West Clinton; “Pharoah’s Fury,” Eastland Baptist; and “Foreigners” and “Quick,” Central.
Quizzing out four times were Hope and William Nofziger. Quizzing out three times were Justice Beck, Hyatt Stamm, Ian Armstrong, Grace Armstrong, Kate Nofziger, Levi Myers and Jacob Myers, who won a large silver dollar for quizzing out in the first three questions of a match.
The final two meets are Sunday, Feb. 18, at Pettisville Missionary and Sunday, Feb. 25, at Central Mennonite.
The weekend of March 16- 18, the area will host a large invitational at Archbold High School with over 70 teams from the West Liberty and Kidron areas of Ohio and teams from Pennsylvania and Virginia.
More than 500 guests will be hosted in area homes for the event.
