Goldfuss Named Resident Of The Month At Fairlawn

Evelyn Goldfuss is the September Resident of the Month at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home, Archbold.

Born Jan. 30, 1918, in Defi- ance County to Charles and Violet Hanna, she was one of six children.

She married Francis Goldfuss on June 19, 1937. They had two daughters, Charlene (Warner) and Pamela (Parker), now deceased, and a foster daughter, Irene (Rice).

The family enjoyed camping when the girls were at home.

The couple owned a small grocery store in Defiance called the Perry Street Market for five years. In 1962, they ran a rooming house and rented apartments in two large homes in Defiance.

“We housed mostly men and boys who needed a home,” said Evelyn. “It was a lot of work because they came and went a lot.”

Francis died in 1969. Evelyn continued with the rooming home and apartments until 1989.

The couple attended the Defi ance Church of the Nazarene most of their lives. Church was a big part of Evelyn’s life, and she always enjoyed singing. She supported International Gospel League for many years.

The couple did mission work at an orphanage in Kentucky; they also hosted many church youth parties at their home. She taught Sunday School in her younger years, was involved with the women’s group, Bible study, and senior group activities.

Evelyn has always believed in prayer and believes her strong faith has helped her through the rough spots in her life.

Her hobbies included sewing, raising roses, embroidery, crafts, and crocheting.

Evelyn lived in the Fairlawn Apartments for seven years before moving to Fairlawn Haven in July 2006.
