Archbold’s Matthew Gladieux, Mason Babcock, Trey Theobald, and the 4×400- meter relay team of Tony Grime, Elijah Zimmerman, Austin Roth and Theobald qualified for the Division II regional track and field tournament, Thursday, May 23, and Saturday, May 25, in Piqua.
They finished in the top four of their events at the district meet in Defiance, Wednesday, May 15 and Friday, May 17.
Van Wert won the boys team title with 92 points.
Theobald finished fourth in the 200-meter dash and fourth in the 400.
He ran the 200 in 22.94 seconds. Toledo Central Catholic’s Matthew Griffin won in a meet record time of 21.62, breaking the old record of 22.32 set in 2017.
He ran the 400 in 51.02. Bryan’s Tyler Manon won in 49.96.
The 4×400 relay finished fourth in 3 minutes, 33.75 seconds one-tenth (.1) of one second ahead of Van Wert. Theobald came from behind to edge out Van Wert’s Ethan Brown at the finish line to secure Archbold’s fourth-place finish.
Toledo Central Catholic won in 3:25.38.
Gladieux finished third in the discus and fourth in the shot put. His throw in the discus was 150-7; the winner was Van Wert’s Austin Clay with a throw of 158-11.
Gladieux’s throw in the shot was 46-9 1/4. Van Wert’s Clay won with a meet record throw of 56-6 1/2, breaking the record of 56-2 1/2 set in 2017.
Babcock finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 141-8.
