Gerald D. Short, age 83 years, of Archbold, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 1, 2017, at CHP Defiance Area In-patient Hospice.
He was born Oct. 14, 1934, at Archbold, the son of Freeman and Dorothy (Rychener) Short.
He married Marilyn Wyse on Aug. 21, 1955, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 16, 2014.
A lifelong resident of the Archbold area, he worked at Yoder & Frey, Short Catering, and was a guard at Sauder Village. He did volunteer work for Mennonite Central Committee and Mennonite Disaster Service.
He enjoyed farming, golfing, and camping, and was a mem- ber of the Archbold Evangelical Church.
He is survived by two children, Sherri (Andrew) Brodbeck of Archbold and Kerri Short of Stryker; two grandsons, Kyle (Tara) Brodbeck of Archbold and Kurt (Brooke) Brodbeck of Noblesville, Ind.; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Richard (Sylvia) Short and David (Trudy) Short, both of Archbold.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a sister, Jeanette Smith.
Friends may call at the Archbold Evangelical Church on Monday, Nov. 13, from 9- 11 a.m. with a Celebration Of Life Service to follow at 11 a.m. with pastors Jesse Kahler and Kurt Brodbeck officiating.
It was Gerald’s wishes to be an anatomical donor at the University of Toledo Medical School.
The family suggests that memorials be given to Sauder Village or Defiance In-Patient Hospice.
