Genevieve “Sweetgrass” Eicher, 88, of Napoleon, passed away Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at her home.
She was a Wyandot Elder, a librarian at the Ridgeville Public Schools, local historian, genealogist, freelance writer and researcher.
Genevieve was also known internationally for her research on the Underground Railroad.
She loved to travel and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Bryan and Waterville, American Legion Post #454 Auxilliary, Ridgeville Corners, and VFW Auxilliary in Napoleon.
Genevieve will be greatly missed by her faithful companion “Buddy.”
Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughters, Cathie Shaffer and Lee “Savannah” Eicher; sister, Virginia Turner; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Lynn Parrish, eight brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will take place today, Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the Wright-Habegger Funeral Home, 24084 W. Second St., Grand Rapids, Ohio. Burial will follow at Locust Grove Cemetery, Ridgeville Corners.
