FYPON MERGING WITH THERMA-TRU; 79 JOBS LEAVING ARCHBOLD

Web Exclusive

Fortune Brands, the parent company of Archbold’s Fypon, announced Tuesday, Sept. 29, a total of 79 jobs will be leaving Archbold.
Kathy Ziprik, public relations representative for Fypon, said 30 salaried positions at Fypon will be eliminated, putting those workers out of a job.
Another 30 will be moved to offices in either Maumee or Butler, Ind.
An additional 19 hourly jobs will be eliminated.
Fypon also announced it will relocate a portion of its polyurethane production from Archbold to the company’s Yantai, China, location.

Merger
Fortune Brands announced it will merge Fypon with the company’s Therma-Tru Door business.
Fypon, which is located in Archbold, manufactures decorative millwork for the construction industry out of polyvinylchloride and polyurethane in a wide variety of architectural styles.
Therma-Tru, headquartered in Maumee, manufactures fiberglass and steel exterior door systems.
The two companies are being merged to take advantage of "significant cost efficiencies and sales synergies in a persistently-challenging residential housing market," company officials said.
Tom Riscili, Fypon president, said, "This merger brings two great brands together, and offers the best opportunity to grow the Fypon brand.
"A key benefit of this merger is that Fypon will now have national sales coverage provided by the Therma-Tru sales team, enhanced by several members of our Fypon sales team.
"We believe Fypon has a great future ahead as part of the Therma-Tru family."
Company officials said they plan to have the merger completed by the end of the first quarter of 2010.

What Goes, What Stays
Ziprik said currently, there are 85 hourly employees in Archbold, plus the 60 salaried positions.
Once the 19 hourly positions are subtracted, that leaves 66 hourly jobs. She anticipates there will be a few salaried positions left in Archbold.
Fypon’s customer service team will remain in Archbold, along with distribution, quick-rail, and column-wrap activities.
Fypon departments such as accounting, marketing, and human resources will leave, to be integrated with Therma-Tru.
Riscili said, "I understand and regret that these decisions will impact many of our loyal employees and their families.
"As always, Fypon is committed to providing all of our employees with fair and respectful treatment. We will offer transition assistance as well as job search training for any employees who will be affected by the merger.
"This decision is in no way reflective of the efforts or commitments of our Fypon employees," he said.–posted Oct. 1, 11:50 am
