Fulton Co. Unemployment Up One Point In Dec. ’11





 

 

The Fulton County unemployment rate in December 2011 was 8.6%, up one percent from the preceding month, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services announced last week.

Unemployment in the county has been 8.7% or less since August 2011. It dropped to 7.6% in November 2011.

The 7.6% unemployment rate was the lowest in Fulton County since June 2008.

Henry County unemployment in December was up 1.2%. That’s the largest increase and highest unemployment rate in the fourcounty area.

Williams and Defiance counties unemployment decreased in December. Defi- ance County’s 7.8% rate is the lowest in the four-county area.

ODJFS estimated 1,800 Fulton County residents were out of work in December. Another 19,500 were employed. Total labor force was estimated at 21,400. Numbers do not add due to rounding.

Among Ohio’s 88 counties, December unemployment ranged from a high of 14.3% in Pike County, in south-central Ohio, to a low of 4.9%, in Mercer County, in west-central Ohio.

ODJFS estimates show there were 16 counties in Ohio with unemployment rates of 10% or more. Most of the counties are in the southeastern and south-central areas of the state, although Huron County, in north-central Ohio had a 10.9% rate, and Ottawa County, east of Toledo, had a 13.3% rate.

All county unemployment figures are not seasonally adjusted. ODJFS estimated that as a whole, the state unemployment rate was 7.6% for December, unchanged from the previous month.

The national unadjusted unemployment rate for December was 8.3%.

When seasonal adjustments are applied, Ohio unemployment rate increases to 8.1%, while the national rate rose to 8.5%.
