John Horning, Pettisville head volleyball coach, faces the 2013 season with four letterwinners from a squad that finished 17-7, 8-2 in the Buckeye Border Conference last year.
“We have players in new positions this year, but we are a hardworking group,” said the mentor, who is entering his eighth year as head coach.
Back are Emily Hubby, a senior; Dana Fricke and Jordyn Pursel, juniors; and Stephanie Hubby, a sophomore.
Lost to graduation were Molly Bruner, Emily Eicher, Devon Friend, Claire Fry, Carley Hoffmire and Ashlynn Waidelich.
“We want to improve every day and take things one day at a time,” said Horning.
“The girls have worked very hard so far, and we hope to be playing our best ball at the end of the season.
“I see us being competitive in all of our league matches this season. I believe our league should be very competitive this season.”
Rebecca Dorosz is an assistant coach, while Glenn Christiansen is the junior varsity coach. Rachel Horning is the freshmen coach.
The Birds open the season, tomorrow, Thursday, at Holgate.
