Four letterwinners return to an Archbold girls basketball team that finished 14-8, 5-2 in the Northwest Ohio Athletic League last year.
Brian Ziegler returns for his 12th season as AHS girls head coach, with an overall record of 341-130.
Returning are Naomi Rodriguez, Kylie Sauder, Harley Phillips, and Addison Moyer.
Rodriguez, a senior and two-year letterwinner, averaged 4.3 points per game last season. Sauder, a junior, averaged 3.5 ppg.
Sophomores Phillips and Moyer averaged 4.8 and 3.5 ppg, respectively.
Promising newcomers include senior Abi Borojevich, juniors Kiera Gensler and Delaney Garrow, sophomores Karsyn Hostetler and Addison Ziegler, and freshmen Leah McQuade and Sophie Rupp.
Letterwinners lost to graduation were Andi Peterson, Lily Krieger, Gabby Nafziger, and Faith Wyse.
Among the team’s strengths, Ziegler said his “guard play will be strong. We need to develop some inside strength, though.
“We will lack experience at some key positions; we lost our top two rebounders to graduation.
“We will need our returning players to fill different roles to replace three starters lost to graduation, and we’re young, with only two seniors.”
As far as the NWOAL outlook, “our league will be balanced,” said Ziegler.
