Former Fayette Teacher Sentenced On Sex Charges

Tabatha Fidler, 37, former health and physical education teacher at Gorham-Fayette High School, has been sentenced to three years in prison after she engaged in sexual conduct with a Gorham-Fayette High School Student.

A spokesman for Thomas A. Thompson, Williams County prosecuting attorney, said Fidler entered a guilty plea to a bill of information, Monday, July 14, in Williams County Common Pleas Court. Under Ohio law, a defendant must agree to be prosecuted if the prosecutor uses a bill of information.

The bill charged her with two counts of sexual battery; she was indicted by the Williams County Grand Jury on one count on March 26.

The indictment specified that on June 8 or 9, 2007, Fidler engaged in sexual conduct with the victim, a boy who was 16 years old at the time of the incident. The incident took place in the Village of Montpelier, where Fidler resides.

In addition to the three-year prison term, Fidler is classified as a Tier III sexual offender under the Ohio sexual offender law. Tier III is the highest level of sexual offender.

She will be required to register with the sheriff of the county where she lives, works, or attends school every 90 days for the rest of her life, plus any time she changes residences.

Further, neighbors, schools, day care centers, and other such facilities will be notified of her intention to reside within a certain distance of a school.

She will also lose her Ohio teaching license.

Fidler resigned from her teaching position at the high school in April.
