Merlin J. Fluckinger is the November Resident of the Month at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home.
He was born to Clifford and Ella (Neuhauser) Fluckinger on Feb. 20, 1927, near Ridgeville Corners. He had three sisters.
Merlin graduated from Ridgeville Corners High School, enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1944- 45. When the war was over, he was in charge of doing the discharge papers for the troops.
After returning home, he worked on his family’s fox farm. He eventually started his own poultry business and was a bookkeeper for a fertilizer company and Bil- Jax.
As a young man, he met Nancy Eicher and they married on July 7, 1953. They lived much of their married life in Archbold.
Merlin and Nancy had five children: Bob, John, Jim, Don, and one daughter, Carolyn.
The couple enjoyed traveling. Each year they took their children on trips in the United States.
In later years Merlin was a bookkeeper for Dennis Potato Farms and retired from there.
Merlin and Nancy are members of Archbold Evangelical Church, where he was an elder. Merlin was a member of the Fairlawn Board of Directors.
In leisure time, he golfed.
Merlin has served on the Fairlawn Resident Council Board and is in the Fairlawn Village Choir.
