Registered voters in the Archbold School District will be tasked with filling three seats on the school board in the Tuesday, Nov. 7 general election.
There are five candidates, including two write-ins. Jon Lugbill, an incumbent, is not seeking reelection.
Carrianne Baden is a 1995 AHS graduate, one of two who are running as write-in candidates.
Baden holds a Master of Science degree in nursing from the University of Toledo and is a nurse practitioner at West Ohio Orthopedics.
She is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the American periOperative Registered Nurses, and the Ohio Nurses Association. She is a member of St. Peter Catholic Church.
Baden said her objectives “are simply to support our district in maintaining excellence in academics in the best interest of our students, staff, and community.”
Karen Beck is a native of Avon Lake, graduating from Avon Lake High School in 1980. She has been an Archbold resident since 1993.
She holds a bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green State University, with a master’s degree in labor relations and human resources from Cleveland State University. She has been the human resource manager for a manufacturing company since 2002.
She is a member and former president and vice president of the Northwest Ohio Human Resources Association; a member of the Society for Human Resource Management, holding SHRM-SCP and Senior Professional in Human Resources certifications.
She was an adjunct faculty member at Northwest State Community College in 2012- 13, and has been a volunteer at Care & Share more than 10 years.
A member of St. John Lutheran Church, she’s been a Sunday School teacher since 2002 and is a former youth advisor.
She has three objectives: advocate for students and faculty, ensure due diligence in the decision-making process, and bring a fresh perspective on issues.
Roel Galvan is an incumbent, first joining the board in 2006. He is running for a fourth term.
A 1983 AHS graduate, he holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Findlay, and a master’s degree from Bluffton University. He is employed by Sauder Woodworking Co.
Galvan is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management, the Toledo Area Human Resource Association, and the Archbold Area Chamber of Commerce.
His goal is to “continue to help Archbold schools to be the best in Northwest Ohio and help make good decisions for the students, staff, and administration.”
Phil Nofziger is an incumbent, first joining the board in 2010. He is seeking a third term.
A native of Pettisville, he is a 1979 PHS graduate. He attended Northwest State Community College and works at Sauder Woodworking.
He is a member of Assets Toledo, a coach with the Archbold Soccer Club, and a member of the Mennonite Disaster Service.
He attends Zion Mennonite Church.
His goal is to “strive to help Archbold Area Schools continue to be a desired place for employment where our students can develop to be college- and career-ready.”
Jackie Wyse is a write-in candidate.
A 1983 AHS graduate, she is an Archbold native.
She earned a registered nursing license from the Mercy School of Nursing in 1989. She is a certified registered nurse first assistant at West Ohio Orthopedics.
She is a past member of the Association of Operating Room Nurses. She is a member of the Archbold Athletic Boosters and the Archbold Football Moms Club. She is a member of the choir and a Sunday School teacher at Archbold United Methodist Church.
Her objective is to “open the lines of communication between the community, school board, and staff and offer fresh ideas to continue our tradition of excellence for the students.”
