Archbold firefighters extinguished a house fire, Monday, Feb. 9, limiting damage.

Andy Brodbeck, Archbold Fire Department chief, said firefighters were called to the home of Margaret Frame, 6810 Co. Rd. 26, about 2:02 pm, on a report of a structure fire.

Brodbeck said Frame’s son, Tim, who was home at the time, noticed smoke in the house and saw the flicker of a small flame.

He called in the alarm.

When firefighters arrived, Brodbeck said smoke was spilling from under the eaves of the one-story frame house.

A small amount of flame was coming through the west wall, he said.

Not knowing how extensive the fire was, Brodbeck immediately called for a water tanker from Fayette Fire Department.

The battle was conducted from the inside and outside of the house.

Two firefighters went in- side to a bathroom and bedroom area, and tore out the wall from the inside to expose the flame.

Meanwhile, a second crew, armed with a chainsaw, cut through the log-style siding on the outside to get to the fire.

A minimal amount of water was used to extinguish the blaze. Brodbeck said damage was confined to the bathroom-bedroom area.

No one was injured.

Brodbeck said the cause of the fire was undetermined.

He listed damage to the structure at $20,000.

Brodbeck said heat from the fire was building up. If left unattended, the fire could have spread and caused more damage.

“We got it at the right time,” he said.
