Oily rags left on top of a furnace caused a smoky fire that did about $2,000 in damage at Wyse Electric Motor Repair, Wednesday, July 28.

Andy Brodbeck, Archbold Fire Department chief, said a passerby saw smoke coming from the building, and called in the alarm. AFD units were dispatched to the scene about 6:10 pm.

Firefighters entered the building and discovered the problem. Only a few gallons of water were required to extinguish the blaze. Firefighters then used their ventilation equipment to remove smoke from the building.

No employees were in the building at the time of the

fire.
