The Archbold Fire Department responded to a fire in a piece of machinery at the Sauder Woodworking Sauder Street plant, Tuesday, Feb. 23, at about 10:19 am.
Dave Davis, AFD chief, said firefighters were alerted by the company fire alarm system and responded with truck No. 101, the aerial tower; engine No. 102, and hose truck No. 103.
When firefighters arrived, there was no fire showing, but burned plastic and hoses indicated there had been a fire.
Davis said two separate fire-suppression systems– one in the machine itself, and a second in the system that vacuums away sawdust– had activated, knocking down the fire.
There were still embers within the machine, which firefighters extinguished with hand extinguishers.
Workers were evacuated from the building as a precaution, he said.
A cause was not determined. Davis said damage was estimated at a ballpark figure of around $100,000. There were no injuries.
