Doug Krauss, Archbold, will be honored at the 35th annual athletic hall of fame ceremony at The University of Findlay, Saturday, Sept. 20.
As a freshman, Krauss participated in junior varsity basketball, but it was on the baseball diamond that he excelled. He was a four-year letterman who helped lead his team to the national association of Intercollegiate Athletics Region VI playoffs.
During the 1975 season, Doug batted .301 and finished second on his team in hits and runs batted in.
During his four-year career, the baseball team was 35-9 in the Hoosier Buckeye Conference and won two league titles.
Following graduation in 1976 from then-Findlay College, Krauss went on to a Hall of Fame coaching career that is still in the works.
As the head basketball coach for the last 24 years at Archbold High School, Krauss has accumulated a record of 380-160. His teams have won 12 Northwest Ohio Athletic League titles, six district titles, and four regional titles.
They have been to four Ohio High School Athletic Association Final Four tournaments in Columbus.
He has been the league coach of the year nine times and the OHSAA State Coach of the Year in 1996. In addition, he was the head baseball coach at AHS for 14 years, accumulating a record of 177-111-1 and garnering three league Coach of the Year honors in that sport as well.
Krauss has a master’s degree from the University of Toledo. He and his wife, Sue, have three grown children: Laura, Tim, and Amy.
Doug retired from teaching, but is still the AHS head boys basketball coach and works as an Ohio sales representative for Daktronics.
