“Fierce” Wins Bible Quiz Tourney

Area Bible quizzers and their supporters were treated to a fun day of tournament quizzing for the local quizzing finale, Sunday, March 20.

After praise and worship time, Glen Coblentz, North Clinton pastor, gave a rousing welcome to the crowd in attendance.

The season’s top 25 individuals and quizzers who recited the most memory verses were recognized, followed by a season video prepared by Alexis Stamm. Gerald Schoenhals, area coordinator, was recognized for his 10 years of service, during which a quarter of the Bible was studied.

Presenting tokens of appreciation was quizmaster Alysa Short, who said that for Schoenhals the best part of Bible Quiz was what the quizzers took with them– the Word of God instilled in their hearts.

Eliot Nofziger, Hope Nofziger and Jacque Seigneur were recognized for quizzing out in all 19 season matches, scoring 665 points.

Finishing out the top 25 were Ciara Caldwell, 650; Tony King, Melissa Kinkaid and Shelby Miller, 640; Phillip Nafziger, April Short and Katie Yoder, 635; Hannah Groeneweg, Kasen Culler and Emily Trent, 625; Kelsey Waidelich, 620; Victor Arend, 610; Katie Keesbury, 600; Carly Sprow, 585; Paul Schoenhals, 580; Galen Short, 575; Rose Sliter, 570; Tiannah Sheets, 565; Elise Sauder, Ryan King and Claire Waidelich, 550; and Ruthann Stuckey, 545.

Recognized for answering memory questions were Casen Culler, Jacque Sei- gneur, Eliot Nofziger, Hope Nofziger, Ruthann Stuckey and Phil Nafziger.

“Fierce,” who went 19-0 for the season, won Sunday’s double elimination tournament, but it did not come easily. “Sad Goats,” the area’s youngest team, stunned “Fierce” twice in the opening rounds and won the winner’s bracket.

“Whatever” from North Clinton, which went 17-2 in the season, took “Fierce” down to the wire in two close matches, one ending in overtime. “Sad Goats” settled for second place when “Fierce” came from behind twice in the final matches.

“Whatever” finished third, followed by “Ferocious Ani- mals,” Sonrise Community, in fourth. “Richly Ornamented,” from First Baptist, Stryker, and “West Clinton Football” tied for fifth.

Winning the two consolation brackets were “Second in Command,” Tedrow, and “Nobles and Officials,” Central.

Lockport’s “Fierce” members are Ryan and Tony King, Philip Nafziger and Eliot Nofziger. Lockport’s “Sad Goats” members are Hope Nofziger, Melissa Kinkaid, Hannah Groeneweg and Cara Foor.

“Whatever” members are Jacque Seigneur, April and Galen Short, Devyn McClay, Kira and Ross Andre.

Fifteen area teams travel to Lancaster Mennonite High School, March 25-27, to participate in a 77-team event with teams from Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
