Federal Cash Could Flow To Schools In December

Money from the federal Race To The Top grant program could begin flowing to Ohio schools as early as December, said Julie Daubenmire, assistant press secretary for the Ohio Department of Education.

Ohio was one of several states that qualified for the federal dollars in the second round of funding. Ohio got $400 million from the federal government. Money was distributed to school districts based on the number of lowincome students.

Archbold and Pettisville school districts will each receive $100,000 over four years, the “floor,” or lowest amount, a district could receive.

Out of Ohio’s more than 600 school districts, 538 districts and community schools have signed up to participate in Race To The Top.

The money will pay for local and statewide initiatives, Daubenmire said.
