Fayette Youth Honored At Ohio State Fair

Trishton Rash, Fayette, had the 4-H grand and reserve champion goats at the 2008 Ohio State Fair.

Rebecca Rash, Fayette, received first place in the 12-15- year-old goat showmanship competition. She also received first place in the goat skillathon for 14-year-olds, with two grand champions.

They were two of many Fulton County youths who were recognized at the fair.

Megan Born, Delta, received a clock trophy for outstanding competency during home decorating day. She won a first prize with her 4H project, “First Home Away from Home.”

Participants are recognized as Outstanding of the Day if they place in the top 20% of their class competing against youngsters from all 88 Ohio counties. One clock trophy is given overall to the youth who place first in the division.

Other youth from Fulton County who received awards:

•Mark Banister, Wauseon: first place landrace boar hog; reserve junior champion; second place, January landrace gilt; second place February landrace gilt.

•Tony Banister, Wauseon: third and sixth place Yorkshire boar hog; fourth place Yorkshire gilt.

•Ellie Heilman, Delta: reserve grand champion dairy goat.

•Esther Heilman, Delta: first place goat showmanship; second place goat skillathon; fourth and fifth places, junior dairy goats.

•Kailey Kruse, Wauseon: second place, 11-12-year-old rabbit breed ID; first place, 12-year-old skillathon; third place, rabbit poster.

Taylor Kruse, Wauseon: first place, 13-14-year-old rabbit breed ID; overall breed ID winner; first place, 14-year-old skillathon; first place, 13-14-year rabbit showmanship; first place, rabbit poster; rabbit showman of showmen.

Jessica Meller, Delta: focus on photography, Level 2 project.

•Samantha Norman, Wauseon: reserve grand champion Berkshire barrow hog; 11-year-old outstanding market exhibitor, swine; fourth in 11-yearold showmanship; third place Hereford steer; 11-year-old outstanding market beef exhibitor; fourth place, 11-year-old showmanship; outstanding 11-year-old beef record book; winner, 11-year-old beef skillathon

•Krista Thierry, Wauseon: fifth in 11-year-old rabbit skillathon; second place, rabbit poster; her rabbits won four first, three seconds, and four thirds; won best of variety, Netherland dwarfs; best of opposite sex variety, Netherland dwarf; and one best of breed.
