Fayette Boys, Wauseon Girls Win Archbold Invitational

The Fayette boys cross country team and the Wauseon girls team won the Archbold Invitational, Saturday, Sept. 8.

The Blue Streak boys placed 13th out of 15 schools with 300 points. Fayette won with a score of 96. Stryker was second with 101; Hilltop was third with 104.

The AHS girls placed 10th out of 14 schools. Wauseon won with 37 points. Bryan was second with 60; Fayette was third with 136.

Trophies were awarded for first and second places. Medals were given for third through seventh places, and ribbons were presented to eighth through 40th places.

Boys

Brian Grime was the first Blue Streak to cross the line in 19 minutes, three seconds to place 28th.

Second to cross the finish line for AHS was Michael Volkman. He was 56th in 19:47. Colin Shannon was the third Streak to cross the finish line; he was 70th in 20:18.

The fourth runner for Archbold to finish was Justin Storrer. He was 78th in 20:32. The fifth and final scoring runner for the Streaks was Tyler Short. He was 91st in 21:12.

Jacob Gobrogge was 109th in 21:55.

Edgerton’s Jordan Kames won in 17:02.

Girls

Wauseon 37, Bryan 60, Fayette 136, Ayersville 140, North Central 150, Pettisville 187, Evergreen 201, Antwerp 215, Edgerton 223, Archbold 242, Montpelier 245, Fairview 297, Hicksville 305, Swanton 361

Katrina Gobrogge finished first for Archbold. She was 18th in 23:01.

Laura Bowman was 62nd in 25:54. Jackie Bell was 69th in 26:03, while Aleah Lambright was 70th in 26:04. Rahel Frie was the final scoring runner;

she was 95th in 28:08.

Amanda Storrer was 115th in 30:21. Paige Price was 117th in 30:51.

Wauseon’s Holly Baird won in 19:59.

“All runners are improving their times,” said Mike Wachtmann, AHS coach. “We have been working hard in practices, and I was pleasantly surprised at how well they ran this early in the season.”
