Evelyn J. (Short) Rufenacht, age 89 years, of Archbold, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 20, 2013, at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold.
She was born Oct. 2, 1923, in Archbold, the daughter of Clarence and Christena (Beck) Seiler.
She married Dale E. Short on Oct. 14, 1945, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 1995. She then married Willard Rufenacht on March 14, 1999, and he preceded her in death on March 19, 2003.
A lifelong resident of the Archbold area, she was a homemaker and worked at Gendron Inc. for 20 years before retiring in 1987.
She enjoyed camping, traveling, and visiting with family and friends. She was a member of Zion Mennonite Church in Archbold, Cribs to College CCL.
She is survived by five children, Marcia Wernet of Auburn, Ind., Rodger (Cynthia) Short of Highland Village,
Texas, Gareth (Judith) Short of Archbold, Douglas (Katrina) Short of Athens, Ga., and Sandra (John) Phillips of Whitehouse; seven stepchildren, Judith (Gareth) Short of Archbold, Lynette (Daniel) King of Minooka, Ill., Richard (Darlene) Rufenacht of Wauseon, Rex Rufenacht of Napoleon, Gloria (Dexter) Wyse of Fayette, Randon (Erika) Rufenacht of Archbold, and Gary Rufenacht of Fayette; nine grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; a step-grandson; one brother; and four sisters.
Memorial services were held on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Zion Mennonite Church with pastors Jeff Kauffman and Jessica Schrock-Ringenberg officiating. Interment preceded in the Pettisville Cemetery.
Short Funeral Home in Archbold was entrusted with the arrangements.
