Engineer Says Capital Projects On Target, Ahead Of Schedule

Archbold’s three major capital improvement projects for 2008 are on schedule or ahead of schedule, Bob Seaman, village engineer, said Tuesday.

Ohio Gas Company is relocating some gas mains in the Union Street area. That work should be completed this week or next, Seaman said.

The contractor, Lingvai Excavating, Bryan, has to wait for Ohio Gas to complete its work before finishing some underground work, such as installing catch basins for the storm sewers.

In the meantime, Lingvai crews have started building the new roadway on the east end of the project.

Seaman said workers are excavating for the new street and are beginning to put down the stone base for the roadway.

Street construction won’t catch up to the crews working on the gas lines, so they will not interfere with one another, he said.

Lingvai crews are on track to complete the project by the Oct. 15 completion date, specified in the company’s contract with the village.

The Bryan firm agreed to reconstruct Union St. and the connecting streets for about $918,000.

Storm Sewer

The Lafayette Street storm sewer project, in which a giant storm sewer was installed from Brush Creek south of Short- Buehrer Road to the northwest corner of the new Archbold Evangelical Church property, is essentially complete, Seaman said.

All that’s left on the $902,000 project is cleanup and final grading, along with placing some rock to protect a ditch from erosion.

The contractor on the job, Anderzack Pitzen, Metamora, is working on the project only one day a week. The company has until Sept. 1 to finish the work.

Lafayette Street

Paving is completed on the Lafayette Street extension. All that’s left for Heer Excavating, rural Archbold, is final grading of the soil around the new streets and touch-ups.

“They should wrap up that project soon,” Seaman said.

The $418,000 project should be finished well before the Oct. 15 completion date, he said.
