Elvesta Grieser, age 94 years, of Archbold, passed away Monday morning, March 11, 2013, at the CHP Defi- ance Area In- Patient Hospice Center.
She was born Dec. 10, 1918, near Streetsboro, the daughter of William and Mary (Hershberger) Christner.
She married Lloyd J. Grieser on March 1, 1940, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 16, 2012.
A resident of the Archbold area for many years, she was a homemaker, worked at Spangler Candy Company in Bryan, and was a waitress at the former County Squire Restaurant.
Elvesta, with her husband, worked for Mennonite Central Committee in Akron, Pa., and Montreat, N.C., near Ashville, for three months at a time.
She enjoyed cooking and gardening, and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She was a member of Lockport Mennonite Church and then helped with church planting at Pine Grove Mennonite Church, and since was a member of the Zion Mennonite Church in Archbold, and Gideon’s Auxiliary.
She is survived by two children, Colette (Mark) Yoder Overly of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Ron (Ruth) Grieser of Archbold; four grandchildren, Shane (Waleska) Yoder, Shauna (Sean) Elsten, Chad (Angel) Grieser, and Lisa (Ben) Osterland; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son-in-law, Murl Yoder; four brothers; and five sisters.
A memorial service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Zion Mennonite Church with Pastor Jeff Kauffman officiating.
Friends may call at Short Funeral Home in Archbold from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday.
