Dorothy Lambert, Archbold Elementary School principal, said as of Sunday, Aug. 8, the elementary school will have 488 students when the doors open Monday, Aug. 23, for the 2010-11 school year.
Lambert told Archbold school board members during the Monday, Aug. 16 meeting, there are 109 kindergarten students registered, making it the largest class in the building.
There are 100 second graders registered, 96 first graders, 94 third graders, and 89 students in fourth grade.
She said there are 20 new students at the elementary.
But the numbers may change. Lambert told board members that parents could arrive to enroll students on the first day of school.
The elementary school should be ready by its open house, Thursday, Aug. 19, from 5 to 7 pm.
Royal Short, Archbold Middle School principal, said Jeremy King, a new seventh grade math teacher, “was talked into being the junior high athletic director.”
He said King’s wife has been assisting him.
Also, students at the junior high have been practicing for fall sports.
Tim Meister, Archbold High School principal, said the school will host a freshmen orientation, Thursday, Aug. 19.
The event is for more than freshmen. Students who are new to the district and foreign exchange students may visit the school from 9:30 to 11:30 am to learn the ins and outs of AHS, “so the first day isn’t as intimidating,” he said.
