Barnaby Wyse enters his fifth season as the head coach of the Pettisville boys soccer team with eight letterwinners back.
The soccer team competed in the Toledo Area Athletic Conference for the first time last year, finishing with a 4- 2 record.
The Birds finished 2020 with an 11-5-1 record.
Returning are four seniors: Quinn Wyse, First Team All District, Second Team All- State; Zakkai Kaufmann, Second Team All-District; Harley Crossgrove, and Bryce Beltz.
Also back are juniors Ellie Grieser, Shawn Adkins, and Jaret Beck, and sophomore Joey Ripke.
“We are returning a core of players that contributed on the varsity pitch last season,” said the coach. “We again have some strength with quality players in the midfield, and should be strong in the middle of the pitch.
“We are looking to find consistent goal scoring out of the wing positions.
“We are also starting two new center backs. We are looking for contribution on the varsity pitch from three freshmen.
“We should see some growth and improvement throughout the season with a hard-working group. I think we will find some leadership in the senior group, which should positively affect overall growth and chemistry.”
As far as the TAAC, “As always, Ottawa Hills should be the front-runner, and Maumee Valley Country Day has some quality players returning as well.
“We hope to find ourselves with a league record above .500 at the end of the season.”
Assisting with coaching duties are Shawn Kauffman and Chris Thuma.
