Edna I. Rice, age 89, of Archbold, passed away Tuesday morning, July 30, 2013, at Fairlawn Haven, where she had been a resident for the past three years.
Edna was born on April 16, 1924, at Nappanee, Ind., the daughter of Jacob D. and Mary Ann (Schmucker) Miller.
She married Milton (Mick) Rice on April 21, 1946, and he preceded her in death on March 22, 1994.
She was a faithful member of St. John’s Church all of her married life.
She volunteered for many organizations in the Archbold area which includes Sauder Village Gift Shop, Fairlawn Haven, Hands of Grace, and Care-N-Share. She worked at Bancroft Cleaners, Fish’s 5&10, Haffners and Dollar General.
She and Milton had five children, Ronald (Ron) and his wife Mary (Vanderlaan), Angela (Angie) and her husband Joe Nofziger, Jerry and his wife Julie (Totte), Lila and her husband Phil Baker, and Lowell and his wife Lisa (Birdsall).
Edna’s family meant the world to her. She loved to cook for them and loved to baby-sit her grandchildren.
She has 16 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She also has four brothers and three sisters, Fredrick, Howard (Joan), Lula (Ivan Stuckey), Glen (Anna), Willard (Mary), Treva, and Mabel (Russel Meyers).
She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton; her son, Ronald; a grandson, Chris; a granddaughter, Jessica; and a great-granddaughter, Miranda.
Services were held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Christian Church in Archbold with Pastors Erich Christman and Adam Just officiating. Interment followed in the Pettisville Cemetery. www.ShortFuneralHome.com.
