The Eagle Scout project of Levi Baus, 15, rural Archbold, has received the Black Swamp Area Council Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year award.

Baus, a member of Archbold Boy Scout Troop 63, was elevated to Eagle Scout during a Court of Honor ceremony, Saturday, Feb. 10, in Defiance.

One requirement of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in scouting, is a community service project.

For his project, Baus raised nearly $5,500 to purchase 80 medical trauma kits, one for every classroom in Archbold schools, along with a few common areas. He held a training class for Archbold teachers on how to use them or other improvised materials to provide immediate emergency medical support for traumatic injuries.

A committee of the Black Swamp Area Council selected Baus’ project from nominations. His project will compete at the regional, and possibly national, levels.

A home-school student, Baus is a high school sophomore. He has been involved in scouting since 2009.
