Duane L. Layman





Duane L. Layman, 91, of Archbold, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 19, 2008 at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold.

Prior to his retirement in 1982 he had worked at the former La- Choy Food Products in Archbold. He had also worked at the former New York Boat Oar Company in Archbold.

Mr. Layman was born in Fulton County, Ohio on Jan. 24, 1917, the son of the late Walter F. and the late Sarah (Liechty) Layman. On Sept. 2,1939 he married Virginia Galbraith, and she survives.

He attended at the Archbold Evangelical Mennonite Church.

He had donated almost 50 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross Blood Drives. He had also been a Boy Scout leader with the Archbold Boy Scouts for many years and had been a member of the former Fulton County Trailmaster Camping Club. Duane also participated in the Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk almost every year until 1995.

Surviving besides his wife, Virginia of Archbold, is one son, David L. (Deborah) Layman of Fayette; granddaughter Dawn (Jay) Mohr of Bryan; grandson Granger (Tracy) Layman of Carthage, Mo.; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Layman, Opal Striggow, and Clarice Long; and one brother, Edward Layman.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, in the Chapel at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold, with Pastor Stuart Rex and Pastor Michael Rice, officiating. Interment will be in the Bayes Cemetery, near Wauseon.

The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the American Red Cross, Hospice of Williams and Fulton Counties, or the Archbold Evangelical Mennonite Church.
