Dorothy L. (Carroll) Strayer, age 79, of Wauseon, passed away Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011, at Fulton Manor in Wauseon, with her loving husband at her side.

She had resided at Fulton Manor since April of 2006. She had battled Parkinson’s since the 1990s.

Mrs. Strayer was a homemaker, parent, and a cosmetologist with her own shop, The Chic House, for 40 years, retiring in 1992. She had received her license in 1952, having attended the Ravenscroft Beauty College in Ft. Wayne, Ind.

Dorothy was born in Bryan on Dec. 18, 1931, the daughter of the late Lester and the late Orpha (Rittenhour) Carroll. She married George W. (Bill) Strayer on Nov. 6, 1954 in Bryan, and he survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Leslye J. (Dan) Bruner of Wauseon, Marcy R. (Larry) Reed of Lambertville, Mich., Kassie K. (Ron) France of London, Ohio; one son, Sharm W. (Lana) Strayer of Maineville, Ohio; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Denver Carroll; and two sisters, Betty (Carroll) Dangler- Stokes and Evelyn (Carroll) Unger.

Public graveside service and committal will be held at 9:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, at the Winameg Cemetery. A memorial service will then be held at 11 a.m., Friday, at the Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home in Wauseon, with Pastor Ruth Ann Scoby, officiating.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m.

The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Wauseon Rotary Club for Dorothy Biddle Park, Christ United Methodist Church, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
