Brodie Dominique, sevenyear old son of Justin and Kari, Archbold, won a state championship in youth wrestling at the OHIOWAY (Ohio Wrestling Association for Youth) State Championships, Saturday, March 23, at Tiffin University.
A first grader at Archbold Elementary School, he advanced after taking first place at the northwest regional tournament in Findlay, Sunday, March 3, where the top eight qualified for the state tournament.
At the state championships, he wrestled twice in the Division 1, 58-pound weight class in an eight-man bracket before advancing to the championship round.
He pinned his first opponent in 29 seconds; won a 6-2 decision in the second-round match; and pinned his opponent in 4:03 in the championship finals.
Dominique has wrestled with the Archbold youth team for three years. He is undefeated in 2013.
Dominique is coached by his father, an AHS wrestler and ‘99 graduate. His eightyear old brother Carson is his workout partner.
Brodie advances to the NUWAY National Championships, April 13-14, in Battle Creek, Mich.
