Ayersville defeated Pettisville 7-5 to win the Div. IV district softball championship at Bryan, Friday, May 18.–Updated 5.18, 10 pm
Pettisville avenged an 8-2 loss to Antwerp in the Div. IV district semifinal last year with a 7-1 victory, Tuesday, May 15, at Bryan.
The Birds scored two runs in the top of the first to set the tone for the game. They scored four runs in the fourth and one in the seventh for their total of 7.
Delaney Nofziger, PHS pitcher, had a shutout going until the bottom of the seventh when Chey Miller-Sweet hit a double to bring home Alex North, giving the Archers their only run.
Antwerp scored six runs in the sixth inning last year to break a tie at 2.
But the Archers couldn’t come back from a seven-run deficit.
The Birds advance to the district final, Friday, May 18, 5 p.m., against Ayersville. The Pilots defeated Edgerton 4-1 in their district semifinal Tuesday night.–Posted 5.15, 8 pm
