Archbold High School is always an important part of the community; but Thursday and Saturday, the school will bring an economic bonus to town.
AHS will host the Division III district track and field meet.
For many years, the meet has been held at Ayersville High School. The switch to Archbold is quite a coup for AHS, and will bring hundreds of people to this community.
Thirty-eight track teams– 20 boys teams and 18 girls teams, including Archbold and Pettisville– will compete for the opportunity to advance to the regional meet.
In addition to athletes, coaches, and officials who are participating, parents, grandparents, students, and other fans will be coming to Archbold.
Local businesses have a golden opportunity with this event. While the concessions stand at the track will be extremely busy, restaurants could see an uptick in business during and after the meet on both days.
Visitors may make quick runs for supplies for gas and groceries, a folding chair, or even sunscreen.
Perhaps some visitors will drive through the lots of our automotive dealerships or farm implement dealers and spot something they need. Or they’ll see something in one of the windows of our merchants they just need to have.
Maybe it’s the first time they’ve come to Archbold, and they’ll decide they need to come back sooner rather than later.
Of course, the district track meet is all about athletes competing, striving to reach new heights of athletic performance and cooperation.
The economic benefit is an added bonus. And we’ll take it.
