Village Announces Downtown Closure

Bob Seaman, village engineer, and the Archbold Area Chamber of Commerce announced North Defiance Street will be partially closed Monday, July 21, through Friday, July 25.

Crews will repair cracks in the pavement and recoat the decorative colored areas at the intersections of North Defiance Street and Stryker Street, and North Defiance Street and Holland Street.

Work starts Monday at 4 pm, when both intersections will be cleaned and the cracks repaired. During this time, traffic will be maintained with flagmen directing motorists.

Tuesday night, one of the two intersections (the order has not be determined) will be closed, and the new color coating applied.  The work will be done at night, but the intersection must remain closed the next day to allow the new coating to dry.

On Wednesdsay evening, the first intersection will be reopened, then the other closed and the same process repeated.

During the repair and recoating, heavy truck traffic will be detoured away from downtown.

Local traffic will also be detoured; the local detour will require that there be no parking on the east side of Ditto Street between Stryker Street and Williams Street.

Archbold’s Historic Downtown Business District will remain accessible while work is underway,  but motorists may have to turn around to leave, or exit via Depot Street.

The entire work schedule is dependent on the weather.–Posted 7.18, 6 p.m.
