David Deskins, superintendent of the Archbold Area School District, has been named the director of human resources at the Penta Career Center, Perrysburg.

The PCC Board of Education took the action at a Thursday morning, June 28 meeting.

The Archbold Area School Board voted to accept Deskins’ resignation at a special meeting later that same day. Janet Wyse, board member, was absent.

After accepting the resignation, the board immediately went into executive session to “discuss the employment, promotion or demotion of public employees, and other business which the board considers necessary to transact.”

Jon Lugbill, board president, said the board remained in executive session for about an hour and 15 minutes. No action was taken when the board returned to regular session.

Lugbill said during the closed-door session the board discussed “where we’re headed” in selecting a replacement for Deskins.

He declined to give details.

A press release from Penta states Deskins was recommended by Ronald Matter, PCC superintendent, after going through the interview process.

Deskins was one of 26 candidates who applied. He begins Aug. 13, 2012.

The board approved a twoyear contract at an annual salary of $107,571.

The salary is a 6% increase over his current Archbold salary of $101,478. The increase is $6,093.

The Archbold Area School Board chose Deskins for the superintendent job, Dec. 26, 2005.

His career began in the federal court system probation department, but he said he felt he could make more of an impact on young peoples’ lives by working in education, before they found themselves in the court system.

He spent three years at Sidney Lehman Catholic High School.

From there, he joined the Franklin-Monroe Schools in Pitsburg, Ohio, as the principal of the elementary and middle school, and also worked at the National Trail Local Schools in New Paris, Ohio, as the assistant high school principal.

He took over as Archbold superintendent in August 2006, at the start of the 2006-07 school year.

Deskins holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and sociology from Bowling Green State University, which he received in 1986.

He earned a master’s degree in educational administration in 2001 from the University of Dayton, and is currently completing a Ph.D. in educational leadership at the University of Dayton.– David Pugh
