Cory Sprow, 38, Delta, principal of the Delta Elementary School and former Delta High School boys basketball coach, died Thursday, Jan. 3, from injuries he suffered in a vehicle crash.
In a press release, Roy Miller, Fulton County Sheriff, said Sprow was driving east on US20A when, at about 3:22 pm, Wednesday, Dec. 26, his vehicle struck a patch of ice between Co. Rds. 4 and 5 in Swancreek Township. The vehicle went out of control and crossed the centerline.
Sprow’s vehicle was then struck on the passenger side by a westbound vehicle driven by Matthew Trumbell, 18, Swanton. After the impact, Sprow’s vehicle went off the north side of the highway and rolled over.
Sprow was transported to the University of Toledo Medical Center where he remained until his death.
There were two passengers in the Sprow vehicle, ages nine and six; both were taken to Toledo Children’s Hospital.
Trumbell’s vehicle also had two passengers. Trumbell and one of the passengers went to UTMC; the third was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, Maumee.
