Defiance Tops AHS Boys 51-45

The Defiance Bulldogs, under Kirk Lehman, head coach, rolled into Archbold on Tuesday, Jan. 22, and picked up a 51-45 non-league win.

It was the 300th career victory for Lehman.

The two squads came out in a fast-paced opening quarter that had the score knotted at 14.

The second stanza was quite the opposite, as both defenses settled into the game, with AHS outscoring the visitors 8-6 for a 22-20 halftime lead.

Defiance outscored AHS 14-9 in the third for a 34-31 advantage going into the fi- nal eight minutes.

Archbold chased the Bulldogs for much of the fourth quarter, and did close the gap to 44-43 on a pair of back-to-back three-pointers by Zeb Frank.

But the foul line propelled DHS to victory, as the Bulldogs connected on 13 of 14 in the final quarter.

Defiance was 20-25 for the game from the foul line for 80%, while AHS was 14-21 for 66%.

The Bulldogs won the rebounding battle 24-17, but committed 20 turnovers to Archbold’s 15.

Frank finished with 11 points. Teammate Tyson Dietrich led AHS with 15.

The Bulldogs (8-5) used balanced scoring, placing three in double digits, led by Jordan Tobias with 15 points.

Trey Guilliam and Katwan Singleton scored 10 each.
