David A. Bontrager, 97, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at Greencroft Healthcare, Goshen, Ind.
He was born May 8, 1915, in Haven, Kan., to Andrew F. and Fannie ( Bontrager) Bontrager.
He married Mary Weaver Nov. 10, 1940. She died April 21, 1954.
He later married Ilva M. Beck Stuckey. She survives.
Also surviving are four daughters, Twila (Richard) Beck, Hicksville, Joan (Duane) Kauffman, Harrisonburg, Va., Betty Jo (Rol) Leichty, Wakarusa, Ind., and Kay (Jamey) Bontrager-Singer, Goshen, Ind.; two sons, Orval (Veralee) Bontrager, Lebanon, Ore., and Duane Bontrager, Haven, Kan.; 22 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Edna Yoder, Hutchinson, Kan., and Ida Schrock, Haven, Kan.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie Bontrager; six sisters, Barbara Chupp, Mary Miller, Fannie Troyer, Mattie Gingerich, Amelia Bontrager and Anna Yoder; and five brothers, Edward, William, Clarence, Enos and Andrew Bontrager.
A Goshen resident since 1997, Mr. Bontrager was a member of East Goshen Mennonite Church.
He was a dairy farmer and worked at Sauder Village Restaurant for 20 years.
A 10:30 a.m., Monday funeral service was conducted at East Goshen Mennonite Church. Pastors Steve Slagel and Merle Hostetler officiated.
Burial will be in Yoder Cemetery, Yoder, Kan.
