Danielle Frey Sweeps; Mann Wins In Tech Shed

Danielle Frey, Pettisville, swept her class, and Jeremy Mann won a race after finishing second in kart racing action at the Jackson kart track, Saturday, Sept. 8.

Danielle Frey set the fast time in senior econo on the concrete oval at Jackson, then went on to win the heat and the feature.

Tyler Herschberger, 12, Pettisville, was second fastest in senior econo qualifying, finished the heat in second, and was second in the feature race.

Mark Frey, Archbold, missed qualifying, but was third in the heat and the feature.

Tech Shed Win

Jeremy Mann, 11, Archbold, who has racked up several feature wins in junior econo, was second in the junior econo heat, and second in the feature. He was the fast qualifier for the evening.

However, when the feature winner’s engine was inspected, it was found to have an illegal camshaft. Specially-designed camshafts can help an engine produce more power; they are outlawed for junior econo.

When the first-place kart was disqualified, Mann was elevated to first place.

Mann was disqualified earlier in the year for having an illegal gasket arrangement on his engine. The gasket placement did not improve the engine’s power, his engine builder said, but he accepted the disqualification.

John Huffman, veteran Archbold kart racer, had five wins over the weekend. He was the fastest qualifier in stock heavy at Jackson, then went on to win the heat and the feature.

At Fremont’s paved oval, Sunday, Sept. 9, he won two heats and the feature in the stock 400 class.

Mini Sprints

Herschberger and Graeme Short, 10, Archbold, ran their 250cc restricted mini-sprint cars on the dirt at Jackson Saturday, Sept. 8.

Short was the fifth-fastest qualifier, was fourth in his heat race, and fifth in the feature.

Herschberger qualified fourth fastest, but then suffered handling woes and finished both the heat and the feature in seventh.-Information provided by Lavon Herschberger, John Huffman, and Chris Short. Written by David Pugh
